The Principal ML System Engineer at PointClickCare is a remote, full-time position focused on establishing the technical vision and architecture for enterprise machine learning and generative AI platforms. This role suits an experienced machine learning infrastructure expert who wants to drive organization-wide engineering standards and build advanced technical roadmaps for a leading health technology company.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to translate business objectives into a multi-quarter technical strategy and roadmap for the machine learning platform.
Establish reference architectures, operational standards, and pipelines supporting model training, evaluation, deployment, and serving across the organization.
Shape company-wide MLOps best practices, encompassing CI/CD for models, feature stores, experiment tracking, and model registries while guiding build-versus-buy evaluations.
Design security frameworks for the machine learning ecosystem, featuring role-based access control, authentication, audit logging, and compliance monitoring.
Define architectures focused on the reliability, observability, and performance of production machine learning systems, including automated remediation and monitoring.
Outline secure and cost-effective integration patterns to connect the platform with existing enterprise data sources, systems, and APIs at scale.
Deliver technical mentorship and leadership across engineering teams, influencing broader technology roadmaps for machine learning infrastructure.

Requirements

Expert-level proficiency in Python and Java combined with strong software engineering fundamentals.
Extensive professional background in designing and developing machine learning platforms and MLOps workflows at a large scale.
Familiarity with modern tooling such as Ray, Kubeflow, MLFlow, and various model-serving frameworks.
Deep hands-on experience utilizing major cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP alongside containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Proven track record of steering technical direction and spearheading cross-team organizational initiatives.

Nice to Have

Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related technical discipline.
Working familiarity with Databricks serverless environments, processing frameworks, Azure Machine Learning components, and standard ML frameworks.
Demonstrated ability to lead and sustain the development of critical cross-functional systems.
Background in implementing security measures at scale, including network security best practices, multi-factor authentication, and compliance monitoring.
Experience optimizing large model training and inference processes, including large language model (LLM) serving, for cost and performance.
