Role Overview

Xometry is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Thomas platform in North Bethesda, MD. This is a senior individual contributor position focused on guiding software implementation across multiple teams and shaping technical decisions. The role centers on helping the platform transition from a traditional supplier directory to AI-assisted sourcing by setting the technical direction for shared systems and AI infrastructure while remaining hands-on with the code.

Key Responsibilities

Write and review architectural plans for new projects, and take part in implementation alongside engineering teams.
Balance traditional and modern technologies while determining how to integrate artificial intelligence across the platform.
Mentor engineers across the organization and guide team members in conducting effective code reviews.
Deliver dependable, high-quality software that meets customer expectations and business schedules.
Partner closely with product managers, designers, and leadership to foster clear communication and high standards.

Requirements

Seven or more years of professional software development experience, including owning outcomes and setting technical direction across teams.
Full-stack engineering capabilities in modern technology stacks, with production-scale experience in backend services, frontend frameworks, relational and analytical databases, and search technologies.
Practical background building artificial intelligence products, such as large language model applications, retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, or embedding models.
Familiarity with multimodal embeddings and search, agent orchestration frameworks, model fine-tuning, and deep learning frameworks.
Strong communication abilities for interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.

Nice to Have

Experience with marketplace or multi-sided platforms and understanding how to scale shared platforms.
