Role Overview

Xometry is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Thomas engineering team in North Bethesda, Maryland. The team is transitioning a traditional supplier directory into an AI-assisted sourcing platform where buyers find matches based on descriptions. This position involves building and maintaining backend and frontend systems, artificial intelligence capabilities, and product features utilized by buyers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

Provide hands-on technical leadership by actively writing code, reviewing submissions, troubleshooting issues, and establishing coding patterns and designs.
Manage projects independently from conception to production, including AI-driven features utilizing large language models, retrieval methods, and search functionality with safety and accuracy evaluations.
Mentor team members, conduct thorough code reviews, and elevate code review standards across the group.
Maintain operational excellence by owning reliability and testing for delivered software to meet business timelines and customer needs.

Requirements

Possess at least 6 years of software development experience with a focus on outcomes and team direction.
Demonstrate strong full-stack capabilities in backend services, GraphQL APIs, frontend frameworks, relational databases, and search technologies, or comparable experience in another modern stack.
Bring practical experience in creating artificial intelligence product features, including large language model applications, retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, or search relevance.
Exhibit strong communication, debugging, and execution skills with an emphasis on unit and integration testing.

Nice to Have

Experience with multimodal embeddings, search methods, agent orchestration frameworks, and domain-specific model fine-tuning or adaptation.
Prior background in marketplace or e-commerce products.
