Role Overview

Xometry seeks a Staff Software Engineer for its Thomas engineering team to help transition the industrial platform from a traditional directory into an AI-assisted sourcing environment. Operating as a senior individual contributor, the professional will establish technical direction for shared systems and AI infrastructure, guide software implementation across multiple teams, and maintain hands-on involvement in coding.

Key Responsibilities

Write and review architectural plans for new projects and participate directly in implementation with engineering teams.
Balance proven and novel technologies and methods, deciding when to shift course or double down on functioning systems, including AI adoption.
Mentor engineers across the organization and guide team members in conducting effective code reviews.
Deliver reliable, high-quality software that meets business timelines and customer expectations.
Partner closely with product managers, designers, and leadership to foster clear communication and collaboration.

Requirements

Ten or more years of professional software development experience, including owning outcomes and setting technical direction across teams.
Proficiency in full-stack development, with production-scale background in backend services, frontend technologies, and data stores.
Practical experience building AI products, including large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, or embedding models.
Familiarity with multimodal embeddings, agent orchestration frameworks, model fine-tuning, and deep learning frameworks.
Ability to work effectively in an AI-native development environment with strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

Experience working with marketplaces or multi-sided platforms and understanding how to scale shared systems.
