Role Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer for Applied AI at Flexport, the individual will lead the creation of cutting-edge applications and intelligent agents that make global logistics smarter and faster. Working from the Amsterdam office, this position requires coming to the physical workspace three times a week to collaborate, whiteboard, and ship products alongside a small, senior team. The work focuses on replacing manual firefighting with automated solutions that handle customs compliance, exception management, and document processing across 112 countries.

Key Responsibilities

Design and ship end-to-end AI agents capable of executing real logistics workflows like document processing and customs compliance.
Cross organizational boundaries to align stakeholders, understand deep operational problems, and drive solutions forward independently.
Move rapidly from initial idea to production deployment while treating every release as a chance to learn.
Collaborate directly with domain experts, operators, and leadership to transform ambiguous industry challenges into shipped software solutions.

Requirements

Ten or more years of software engineering experience with extensive building using Large Language Models in production or personal projects.
Strong product instincts with the ability to identify high-value features independently.
Deep fluency in LLM concepts including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, agent patterns, evaluation, and tool use.
Full-stack capability utilizing TypeScript and Next.js to take ownership of features end to end.
Entrepreneurial drive that embraces ambiguity and values fast execution without waiting for instructions.
Excellent communication skills to bridge disciplines and secure team alignment.

Nice to Have

Practical experience with workflow orchestration tools like Temporal.
Background in developing operator-facing applications or internal tooling.
