Role Overview

The PointClickCare organization is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a full-time, hybrid position based in Waterloo. This role suits an analytical problem-solver who wants to build scalable applications that improve healthcare delivery systems.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and execute tasks throughout the complete software development life cycle.
Partner with the business sector to refine and iterate on software requirements.
Build efficient applications and tools by writing clean source code.
Utilize scripts and relevant tools to automate routine tasks.
Conduct system debugging, troubleshooting, and analysis.
Execute test-driven verification and validation testing.
Conduct code reviews for peers and welcome feedback on personal code.
Work alongside internal colleagues and external vendors to resolve issues and enhance products.
Keep software updated with modern technologies.

Requirements

Professional background creating high-performing, clean code using Java.
Practical knowledge of Spring Boot.
Deep understanding of relational databases such as MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
Demonstrated capability in developing RESTful API endpoints.
Practical understanding and appreciation of test-driven development (TDD).
Proficiency in using GIT for version control.
Background with performance and system monitoring solutions like DataDog or New Relic.
Familiarity with automated testing frameworks including Cypress, Selenium, and RestAssured.
Strong critical thinking, personal leadership, and organizational abilities.
Ability to work independently as a self-starter with minimal oversight.
Comfort with embracing new learning challenges.
Possession of a BSc or BA degree in Computer Science or a related academic discipline.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with UI frameworks and development including React, Angular, or Vue.js.
Direct experience with React, cloud computing, and Selenium automation.
Background using containerization and orchestration tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio.
Knowledge of Ansible configuration management.
Experience working with Jenkins CI/CD pipelines.
Understanding of Linux systems and IP networking.
Cloud platform background using AWS, Azure, or comparable services.
Familiarity with authentication protocols like OAuth, SAML, and OpenID Connect.
Previous work on software-as-a-service (SaaS) products.
Exposure to Service Oriented Architecture.
Scripting proficiencies in Python, Groovy, or Bash.
Production-level on-call experience.
History of mentoring other engineers in a professional environment.
Familiarity with generative AI code assistants and model capabilities.
