PointClickCare is hiring a full-time Senior Software Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team based in Mississauga. This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys building internal products, developer tooling, and scalable platform services for a leading health tech company.

Role Overview

The Platform Engineering group functions as a tight-knit unit of senior engineers dedicated to building internal software products for developers. This includes everything from internal APIs and developer tooling to continuous integration frameworks and Kubernetes-based abstractions. The team treats the platform as a product, placing top priority on usability, adoption, and overall developer experience. A major portion of daily work involves writing code to build platform services and APIs that empower product engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate healthcare software faster, more reliably, and more securely. The position operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring team members to reside within a commutable distance to the Mississauga office for collaborative sessions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain platform services, internal tools, SDKs, and APIs utilized across various engineering teams.
Own platform services through their entire lifecycle, from design and implementation to production operations, writing testable code consistently.
Create and enhance CI/CD workflows and developer automation geared toward maximizing usability and efficiency.
Utilize backend engineering and distributed systems principles to engineer resilient, scalable services and APIs.
Maintain production ownership over constructed services and tools, managing observability, debugging, and incident response.

Requirements

Expert-level capability in TypeScript and Node.js for creating production-grade APIs, internal tools, services, and developer-facing UIs using React or similar frameworks, supported by rigorous automated testing.
Strong fundamentals in software engineering, covering API design, distributed systems, and backend services with a talent for balancing scalability, reliability, and developer experience.
Working proficiency in observability tools, including metrics, logging, distributed tracing, and SLI/SLO frameworks, alongside production service ownership.
Strong proficiency working with Kubernetes to build software abstractions, APIs, and extend capabilities via custom controllers and operators.
Strong capability in designing and building secure, compliant CI/CD pipelines focused on developer experience.
Working proficiency with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, GitOps practices, and cloud-native environments.
Clear communication, documentation, and influence skills to drive platform pattern adoption and produce technical documentation, runbooks, and ADRs.

Nice to Have

Background in building internal developer platforms or platform-as-a-product initiatives, featuring self-service tooling and developer portals.
Familiarity with AI and machine learning integrations, such as LLM APIs, agentic patterns, intelligent automation, and AI-assisted tooling.
Working knowledge of cloud security protocols like IAM, encryption, and secret handling, along with compliance tooling for HIPAA, SOC 2, or HITRUST, and cloud cost optimization.
