This role suits an experienced software engineer looking to build and operate artificial intelligence and machine learning products in Spain. ClickHouse is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Backend AI/ML development to design and scale features within a globally distributed environment.

Role Overview

The AI/ML Engineering group at ClickHouse develops end-to-end artificial intelligence products, including AI functions, the Agentic Data Stack, and console copilots. The position centers on engineering scalable backend systems, designing robust APIs, and integrating machine learning models into production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Build artificial intelligence capabilities across the full stack, spanning backend inference engines and user interfaces for the cloud platform.
Build scalable APIs linking database functionality to external and internal machine learning inference platforms.
Build and maintain connections with standard artificial intelligence frameworks and ecosystem tools.
Deploy models into production architectures with proper version control, monitoring, evaluation, and observability.
Take part in daytime oncall rotations alongside team members.
Create developer tools, documentation, and SDKs to support users.

Requirements

Bring a minimum of five years of professional software engineering background within production settings.
Demonstrate prior exposure to working with artificial intelligence and machine learning technology.
Possess backend development expertise using Python or TypeScript, concentrating on service architecture and application programming interface design.
Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership to independently drive projects from initial concept through to production delivery.
Communicate technical ideas clearly and collaborate effectively across teams.

Nice to Have

Background in deploying and integrating machine learning models into production setups, such as utilizing vector databases and inference interfaces.
Knowledge of cloud infrastructure platforms like Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services, specifically for machine learning deployment.
Familiarity with data processing pipelines and database systems, with specific background in ClickHouse.
