About this role

The AI Product Engineer role at ClickHouse in the United Kingdom involves developing agentic capabilities for an open-source observability platform and suits engineers experienced in production-grade LLM systems. This position focuses on building autonomous agents that investigate incidents, analyze telemetry data, and support developer workflows.

Role Overview

ClickHouse is seeking an AI Product Engineer to work on ClickStack, an open-source platform that unifies logs, metrics, traces, and session replays. The professional filling this position will create the agent layer responsible for diagnosing production issues and summarizing root causes for on-call engineers. The position is based in the United Kingdom within a globally distributed, remote-friendly organization.

Key Responsibilities

Develop reusable workflow skills that encode incident response, debugging procedures, and database queries.
Manage the entire agent stack, covering context engineering, tool design, evaluation frameworks, tracing, and operational costs.
Construct Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, SDKs, and integrations allowing external agents to read telemetry and perform actions.
Engage with open-source contributors and customers to resolve technical obstacles and incorporate feedback into the platform.
Solve complex technical hurdles involving latency, cost constraints, context window boundaries, and hallucination reduction.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering background, including 1 to 2 years dedicated to production LLM-powered systems or agents.
Proficiency in backend development using TypeScript, Node.js, and Python.
Practical background in designing multi-step tool use, planning mechanisms, memory systems, and error recovery for agents.
Familiarity with designing workflow skills and Model Context Protocol servers.
Experience establishing evaluation methodologies such as golden datasets, LLM-as-a-judge patterns, and regression detection.
Ability to write SQL queries for ClickHouse alongside familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.

Nice to Have

Production experience building agents specifically for observability, site reliability engineering, or incident response.
Familiarity with agent observability concepts, tracing, cost attribution, and OpenTelemetry.
Background using prompt caching and context compaction techniques for high-volume telemetry data.
Experience working with columnar databases and event ingestion pipelines.
Contributions to open-source artificial intelligence or agent projects.
Knowledge of systems programming languages like Go or Rust for high-throughput infrastructure.
