Role Overview

The Machine Learning Engineer position at ClickHouse involves building core artificial intelligence capabilities, such as the Agentic Data Stack, AI Functions, and the in-Console copilot. Located in the United Kingdom, this full-time role focuses on developing backend inference services, building scalable APIs, and integrating machine learning models into production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement artificial intelligence features across the full stack, covering backend inference services and frontend interfaces in ClickHouse Cloud.
Build robust and scalable APIs connecting database capabilities with modern machine learning inference systems.
Maintain integrations with external frameworks and tools across the broader artificial intelligence ecosystem.
Deploy models into production systems with versioning, monitoring, observability, and evaluation.
Manage machine learning pipelines end-to-end, including data preparation, training, evaluation, and custom model fine-tuning.
Participate in daytime oncall rotations with team members.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience in production settings.
Practical exposure to artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
Background in integrating and deploying models into production, utilizing vector databases and inference APIs.
Applied programming experience using Python libraries like PyTorch and Jupyter, along with compute clusters such as Ray and Slurm.
Ability to drive features independently from concept to production.

Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, specifically regarding artificial intelligence deployment services.
Understanding of data processing pipelines and database systems, with specific knowledge of ClickHouse considered an advantage.
Experience working with embedding-based systems, including recommenders, ranking, and retrieval.
