Role Overview

Retell AI operates in the fast-paced voice artificial intelligence sector, transforming customer experiences for major global brands. As the first Senior Counsel, this individual will report directly to the founder and serve as the primary legal partner for sales on high-volume enterprise agreements. The role involves addressing novel legal landscapes surrounding voice AI, outbound calling, and data privacy while ensuring that complex transactions close swiftly and safely.

Key Responsibilities

Close complex enterprise agreements, including MSAs, DPAs, BAAs, and order forms, efficiently and with limited reliance on outside counsel.
Create foundational contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and internal turnaround SLAs to ensure sales teams remain unblocked.
Define the company stance on emerging voice AI legal matters, such as call recording consent, TCPA compliance, AI disclosures, and customer use-case reviews.
Manage core platform terms, acceptable use policies, privacy policies, and oversee outside counsel expenditures.

Requirements

Possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree alongside an active US bar membership in the state of California.
Bring at least 6 years of relevant commercial or technology transactions experience, or a minimum of 4 years working within a technology transactions practice group at a top law firm.

Nice to Have

Prior exposure to privacy frameworks and artificial intelligence regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and the EU AI Act.
Professional background dealing with telecommunications, TCPA regulations, or healthcare BAA matters.

Skills and Tools

Strong legal judgment capable of balancing enterprise risk management with rapid deal velocity.
Exceptional precision and speed when executing real-time contract redlines.
Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders.
High degree of ownership and adaptability when operating under ambiguity.

Salary and Benefits

Annual cash compensation ranging from $230,000 to $270,000 USD.
Equity package featuring a four-year vesting schedule and a one-year cliff.
