Role Overview

The Senior Backend Software Engineer, AI Observability & Evals Platform position at LangChain is a full-time role based in San Francisco, CA, requiring candidates to work in-person five days a week. This role suits an experienced backend professional with a background in high-throughput systems who wants to build the backend services powering AI observability and evaluations at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for LangSmith tracing, monitoring, and evaluation workflows.
Collaborate on architectural decisions to keep systems performant and maintainable.
Optimize storage and query performance for large volumes of observability and evaluation data.
Guarantee system reliability through rigorous testing, monitoring, and alerting practices.
Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents by conducting root-cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes.
Create and maintain clear technical documentation, such as system design and API references.
Partner with full-stack engineers, product managers, and product designers to roll out new features.

Requirements

5+ years of professional backend engineering experience working on highly complex products.
Proficiency in at least one backend language or framework, with Python or Go preferred.
Strong understanding of API design and the ability to build reliable data services.
Experience working with high-throughput or mission-critical systems.
Demonstrated capability to optimize backend services for performance and reliability.
Experience utilizing database systems like Postgres, Redis, and Clickhouse.
Experience working with major cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, and Azure.
Strong communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
Customer-centric mindset and a strong sense of ownership.

Annual base salary range of $175,000 to $240,000.
