Senior AI Engineer
About this role
Anago builds software that helps public organisations plan better, prioritise more effectively, and deploy capacity efficiently for societal challenges such as preventive healthcare and asylum procedures. The team is integrating AI applications into these products and needs an experienced engineer to take end responsibility for designing, setting up, and further developing the AI platform.
The incoming engineer will build the foundational architecture on which future artificial intelligence, machine learning, and large language model solutions are developed, rolled out, and managed in production. Because the software supports decisions about people, the work centers heavily on security, governance, continuity, cost efficiency, and explainability. A pragmatic professional who values transparency, auditable systems, and technical leadership will thrive in this environment, helping shape AI adoption both internally and for customers without getting bogged down in pure academic research.
What you will do
- Design, set up, and further develop the AI platform with end responsibility for production systems.
- Build the core technical foundation for current and future AI, ML, and LLM solutions.
- Steer all development toward security, governance, continuity, cost efficiency, and explainability.
- Provide technical leadership and shape the broader AI adoption strategy across the organisation and with customers.
- Maintain production environments utilizing cloud-native infrastructure, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Translate complex technical requirements into practical, maintainable solutions with a strong focus on testability.
What you need
- Minimum of a University (WO) level of education and analytical thinking.
- At least 7 years of overall experience in software engineering.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience specifically with AI, ML, or LLM solutions in production environments.
- Demonstrable background in designing, building, and managing business-critical AI platforms at scale.
- Solid working knowledge of Python, software architecture, data structures, algorithms, API design, and distributed systems.
- Practical familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and pipeline orchestration tools like Airflow.
- Strong communication proficiency in both English and Dutch, with a minimum B1 level.
Nice to have
- Experience with ML frameworks and MLOps tooling
- Familiarity with LLMOps tooling such as LangFuse, LangSmith, or LangChain
