Role Overview
The Security Engineer - Detection & Response position at LangChain in San Francisco is a full-time role focused on building engineering systems to detect, investigate, and stop threats across cloud infrastructure and production platforms. This role suits an experienced security professional with strong software skills who wants to shape the safety of real-world AI agent technology.
Key Responsibilities
Own the complete detection lifecycle by turning threat models and attacker behavior into detections-as-code and measuring signal quality.
Design and build end-to-end security monitoring and telemetry pipelines across AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, and control planes.
Engineer custom tools and workflows for proactive threat hunting, evidence gathering, incident scoping, and containment.
Build internal AI agents and automation to triage alerts, enrich findings, and scale security operations safely with human-in-the-loop controls.
Lead incident response, participate in an on-call rotation, and drive postmortems that lead to permanent engineering improvements.
Collaborate closely with Product Security to translate vulnerabilities and threat models into effective production monitoring.
Requirements
At least 5 years of professional experience in security engineering, focusing on detection engineering, incident response, or security operations.
Strong software engineering capabilities using Python or Go, with TypeScript considered a plus, to write production code and maintainable systems.
Deep understanding of cloud and Kubernetes detection, including AWS or GCP logging, workload identity, and runtime telemetry.
Expertise in modeling adversary behavior, testing detection coverage, and separating meaningful signals from noise.
Practical background in leading incident response, joining on-call rotations, and writing actionable postmortems.
Demonstrated ability to build reliable automation or developer-facing systems, design APIs, and operate code in production.
Pragmatic product mindset focused on identifying high-leverage problems and shipping iterative solutions.
Nice to Have
Experience building or operating AI agents for security tasks such as alert triage, investigation, or human-in-the-loop response.
Proficiency in leveraging AI tools to speed up security investigations and engineering workflows.
Familiarity with AI-specific threats, adversarial testing, and security boundaries for large language models and agent workloads.
Exposure to automated monitoring and evidence collection for compliance standards like SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or Helm.
Background in securing both SaaS platforms and self-hosted or air-gapped deployments.
