Role Overview

As the Application Security Lead, the professional in this role will build and scale the foundations of the product and application security program at Serval. Responsibilities include setting strategy and driving execution for secure software development, vulnerability management, threat modeling, and security architecture across the platform and agentic systems. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring deep technical credibility to ensure security is built into the systems from the first line of code.

Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, and operate the application security program, covering secure SDLC practices, threat modeling, secure design reviews, and code reviews.
Build, lead, and mentor a team spanning product security, secure software development, and vulnerability management.
Establish engineering rigor through secure coding standards, paved-path libraries, and scalable security patterns.
Improve automated tooling coverage, including SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets scanning, and CI/CD security gates.
Own the end-to-end vulnerability lifecycle from internal testing, researchers, and bug bounties to triage, remediation, and coordinated disclosure.
Partner with Engineering, Product, and Infrastructure to embed security by design, including authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, and data protection.
Address novel application security challenges associated with agentic AI, such as prompt injection, unsafe tool use, and data exfiltration.

Requirements

Possess 10 or more years of experience in cybersecurity with deep expertise in application security, secure software development, and vulnerability management.
Demonstrated history of building and leading application security, secure-SDLC, and vulnerability management functions.
Stellar leadership skills with a proven track record of driving continuous program and process improvements.
Strong software engineering fundamentals with the ability to read, write, and review production code as a peer to engineers.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to influence engineering and product decisions effectively under pressure.
Deep expertise in modern application security tooling, primitives, and secure cloud-native distributed-systems architecture.
Thorough understanding of modern adversary tradecraft and tactics, techniques, and procedures.
Mission-oriented mindset with high integrity and passion for secure software development.
