About this role

Role Overview

PointClickCare is hiring a full-time Principal AI Engineer based in Mississauga to design and lead advanced artificial intelligence systems across multiple SaaS solutions. This professional will define technical standards and scalable patterns for reasoning, tool use, and enterprise-wide AI enablement.

Key Responsibilities

Establish the technical vision and reference architecture for agentic AI, setting organization-wide standards for reasoning loops, function calling, memory, and safety.
Build and govern reusable platform elements including multi-model routing, orchestration services, evaluation harnesses, and telemetry.
Develop and optimize advanced prompting strategies for large language models and drive cross-functional integration standards.
Create evaluation frameworks for LLM and agentic systems encompassing offline testing, safety assessments, and quality metrics.
Act as the internal subject matter expert and advisor for senior leadership, business partners, and technical teams.
Identify and execute high-value AI use cases that deliver measurable business results.
Coach and mentor fellow engineers by performing peer reviews, leading knowledge sharing sessions, and establishing best practices.

Requirements

Proven leadership experience in shipping agentic AI at scale across multiple products and setting company-wide standards.
Hands-on expertise with Microsoft technologies including Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, and Azure AI Document Intelligence, alongside Anthropic tools.
Advanced programming skills in Python and Java for production environments, including testing, packaging, and performance profiling.
Experience extending agent frameworks such as LangChain, Anthropic, and Foundry.
Deep background in RAG and agent data pipelines covering OCR, NER, chunking strategies, embeddings, vector stores, and data versioning.
Knowledge of SaaS architectures, model serving, multi-model routing, and cost performance optimization.
Proficiency with relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
Familiarity with system and performance monitoring tools like AppDynamics, Kibana, and OpenTelemetry.
A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Nice to Have

Practical background working with Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio.
Experience utilizing cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
Familiarity with Service Oriented Architectures.
Previous on-call experience supporting production-grade systems.
