About this role

The day-to-day work for the Forward Deployed Engineer, Infrastructure Development & Delivery at fluidstack involves building the software systems necessary to automate the delivery of massive amounts of AI infrastructure. This role focuses on transforming complex, physical processes related to AI compute infrastructure—from land to live compute—into scalable software solutions. Engineers will be responsible for developing tools that automate scheduling, manage site data, streamline change order workflows, and codify the design as the single source of truth across all downstream systems. The core objective is to accelerate the deployment of frontier AI infrastructure by focusing on speed and scale.

This role exists to bridge the gap between the physical realities of building data centers and the software systems required to manage them efficiently. The team is tackling problems such as automating gigawatt delivery, deploying solutions alongside subject matter experts on-site, and ensuring every lesson learned is captured to prevent future issues across all operations. It is a position for individuals who thrive on autonomy and operate by first principles, challenging assumptions to build robust, scalable infrastructure.

Individuals who excel in this role possess a strong ability to operate with high urgency and drive projects forward independently. They must be comfortable moving from high-level design to shipping production code while simultaneously earning credibility with teams involved in physical construction and operations. This position is ideal for someone who is deeply invested in the frontier of AI and wants to build tangible systems that directly impact the speed at which AI infrastructure can be deployed.

What you will do

  • Build the schedule system that manages the portfolio, creating templates and activities tied to materials to manage critical paths.
  • Transform physical site data into structured records, including work packages, field entries, and QA inspections.
  • Develop workflows to ship change orders, ensuring scope, cost, and schedule impacts are managed through an auditable trail.
  • Implement systems to make the design the source of truth by ingesting Building Information Models.
  • Automate the commissioning process by generating test procedures and linking results to assets.
  • Drive the identification of problems, design solutions, and ship features without requiring external direction.

What you need

  • Candidates must have shipped production code using languages such as Go, Python, or TypeScript, and demonstrate the ability to adapt to new languages based on problem requirements.
  • Experience building features utilizing LLM APIs, including those from OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-weight models, along with agentic frameworks is required.
  • The role demands proficiency in using AI coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor to leverage autonomous agentic work.
  • A proven track record of identifying problems, designing solutions, and shipping them independently, without waiting for direction or approval.
  • Candidates must have experience operating quickly under tight deadlines while ensuring that foundational work is robust enough for others to extend.
  • Credibility gained with teams involved in physical construction, such as construction leads or field engineers, is necessary to drive software adoption.
