About this role

The Decision Engineer on the Infrastructure Development & Delivery team at fluidstack focuses on automating the complex processes required to deliver massive amounts of AI compute infrastructure at scale. The day-to-day work involves designing and building software systems that manage the entire lifecycle of AI infrastructure, transforming manual, error-prone tasks into automated workflows. This includes creating schedules, managing work packages, and streamlining change order processes directly from data models. The role exists because the speed and scale of deploying frontier AI infrastructure depend on the ability to deliver compute faster than competitors, requiring a systematic approach to infrastructure delivery.

This position is ideal for an individual who thrives on autonomy and operates based on first principles, challenging assumptions rather than relying on conventional methods. The engineer will be responsible for bridging the gap between high-level infrastructure needs and executable software solutions. They will be deeply involved in turning physical site data into structured, actionable information that drives decision-making across the deployment pipeline.

A successful candidate will possess a strong ability to operate autonomously, take ownership of end-to-end features, and drive adoption of new systems within teams that involve physical construction and operations. This role suits someone who enjoys solving complex logistical problems and applying software engineering principles to physical, large-scale systems.

What you will do

  • Build the schedule that manages the portfolio, creating templates and activities tied to material consumption to manage critical paths.
  • Transform site data into structured records, including work packages, contractor entries, and QA inspections.
  • Develop workflows for shipping change orders, incorporating scope, cost, and schedule impact tracking.
  • Integrate building information models into the bill of materials with revision tracking capabilities.
  • Engineer software solutions to automate commissioning procedures and energization gates.
  • Ensure the design serves as the single source of truth for all downstream systems.

What you need

  • Demonstrated experience shipping production code in languages such as Go, Python, or TypeScript.
  • Proven ability to build functional features utilizing LLM APIs, including those from OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-weight models.
  • Experience working with agentic frameworks and AI coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor to augment development tasks.
  • A track record of identifying problems, designing solutions, and deploying them without requiring external direction or approval.
  • Experience operating under tight deadlines while establishing foundational elements that persist after departure.
  • Credibility gained by collaborating with personnel involved in physical construction, such as field engineers or schedulers.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for driving the adoption of software solutions within operational teams.
