Role Overview

Banyan Software is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join their technology team in Berlin, Germany, for a hybrid role. This position suits an experienced full-stack engineer who can act as a bridge between the central AI Application Modernization Factory and individual application teams.

Key Responsibilities

Embed temporarily with application teams to lead hands-on modernization efforts, including re-platforming and microservices adoption on AWS cloud-native architectures.
Drive the adoption of AI-assisted software development practices and tools like Cursor and Claude Code within daily team workflows.
Consult with teams to identify technical and process bottlenecks, recommending solutions and managing technical change.
Build architectural scaffolding, set up CI/CD pipelines, and implement Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform.
Act as a feedback channel to relay practical challenges and tool deficiencies back to central architects for continuous improvement.
Ensure all embedded teams maintain engineering standards, including Twelve-Factor App principles and DevSecOps practices.

Requirements

5+ years of progressive software engineering experience focused on enterprise applications and modernization.
Full-stack proficiency across front-end, back-end, database, and infrastructure, with expert knowledge in languages like Python, TypeScript, Java, or C#.
Deep practical experience building and deploying scalable applications on AWS along with Terraform proficiency.
Demonstrated ability in consulting, rapid onboarding, assessing technical landscapes, and driving organizational change.
Hands-on mastery in optimizing CI/CD pipelines and integrating DevSecOps best practices.
Solid understanding of modern architectural patterns such as microservices, serverless, and Domain-Driven Design.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and listening skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

Prior experience in a consulting, Staff Engineer, or Forward Deployed role focusing on modernization or technical adoption.
Direct experience mentoring or training software engineers in new technologies or methodologies.
Hands-on experience with modern UI frameworks including React and NextJS.
Professional background utilizing AI-assisted coding tools like Cursor or Claude Code.
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless architectures like AWS Lambda.
