Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, the Software Engineering Director manages a large organization of approximately 50 engineers through a structure of 10 to 11 managers and senior managers. This position partners closely with Product Management and executive leadership to shape technical roadmaps, align engineering strategies with broader company goals, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. While this is a remote role within the US, travel to the Mississauga or Salt Lake City offices is required for specific events such as onboarding, team gatherings, and semi-annual meetings.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with Product Management to design and execute roadmaps balancing innovation, operational excellence, and platform strategy.
Unite multiple engineering teams under shared goals, clear priorities, and robust cross-functional collaboration.
Guide technical architecture decisions across Core and Application & Platform Services technology stacks.
Mentor and develop managers and senior managers to increase organizational effectiveness and talent density.
Lead workforce planning, succession planning, and hiring efforts to attract and retain top engineering talent.
Champion Agile and Kanban methodologies to foster accountability, technical excellence, and continuous delivery.
Support the expansion and scaling of AI-driven products, services, and integrated data ecosystems.
Partner with engineering, product, sales, customer success, and executive stakeholders to deliver complex, large-scale initiatives.

Requirements

15 or more years of progressive software engineering experience, featuring significant leadership within complex technology organizations.
Proven track record of leading large engineering organizations through multiple management layers.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Demonstrated success partnering with Product Management and executives to set strategy and deliver results.
Experience delivering large-scale cloud-based solutions utilizing AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform.
Strong technical architecture background with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and guide long-term technology decisions.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with modern AI technologies, particularly prior experience building and scaling AI-enabled products or platforms.
