As the first dedicated data hire at AI in San Francisco, the Data Engineer will take complete ownership of the entire data stack from day one to support the growing business operations. Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain the primary unified data warehouse from scratch, overseeing modeling, data quality, and performance pipelines.
Gather requirements from internal stakeholders to establish clear, unified business metrics and definitions.
Integrate fragmented data from production databases and SaaS platforms into a reliable source of truth while syncing clean data back to operational tools.
Design performant data models featuring transparent lineage, consistent naming conventions, and thorough documentation for self-serve business intelligence.
Develop internal data utilities by applying artificial intelligence and automated agents to address frequent analytical inquiries.
Implement robust security, governance, and data quality standards right from the beginning.
Evaluate and select appropriate vendors, toolsets, and architecture designs to maintain a cost-efficient data infrastructure.
Establish foundational data engineering best practices and standards for future team members.
Requirements
Bring a minimum of 5 years of professional background focusing on data engineering and business analytics.
Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in SQL, PostgreSQL, and Python for scripting, tooling, and pipeline creation.
Possess practical experience establishing modern data warehouses or lakehouses from the ground up using technologies like Snowflake alongside transformation tools like dbt.
Have hands-on cloud infrastructure experience utilizing AWS and Terraform.
Show a proven history of independently managing data initiatives from conception to completion, preferably as an early-stage team member.
Combine strong product intuition with business curiosity to translate ambiguous stakeholder questions into reliable metrics.

Background in developing internal tooling or applications using large language models and AI agents.
