The Chief Product & Technology Officer (CPTO) position at Banyan Software directs the product vision, technical strategy, and engineering execution for Aequitas Solutions, a mission-critical Student Information System provider. Key Responsibilities

Define and own the multi-year product and technology roadmap, moving Aequitas from a customer-reactive posture to a market-facing one.
Implement AI-first development practices across the engineering team to improve district staff productivity and data quality.
Lead a team of approximately eight direct reports across development and database administration, establishing shared processes and clear development standards.
Own platform architecture strategy across cloud, hybrid, and on-premise deployment models while driving a modernization roadmap for legacy technology.
Balance product innovation against platform stability, particularly during critical compliance reporting cycles.
Build strong working partnerships with customer success, sales, and executive leadership to align product decisions with operational workflows.

Requirements

Genuine AI-first development capability as an active practitioner who can lead a team through transformation.
Strong technical foundation encompassing infrastructure, architecture, and platform operations.
Experience with hybrid, on-premise, or district-managed deployment models.
Proven product instincts to define a roadmap with commercial logic and own the product function with conviction.
Team-building experience in small, complex environments to create structure and accountability.
Change management maturity to guide a long-tenured team toward new ways of working.
Low-ego, high-accountability leadership approach focused on consistent follow-through.
US work authorization and availability to work in Pacific Time, with Southern California location strongly preferred.

Nice to Have

K–12 software or EdTech experience, including familiarity with public-school district procurement and implementation.
Legacy modernization experience managing migration off existing tech stacks, with VB.NET familiarity being a genuine plus.
Professional background at companies with fewer than 200 employees.

Salary and Benefits
