Role Overview

The Technical Accounting Lead, Ads Revenue position involves managing key elements of advertising revenue accounting from initial technical assessment through daily operational execution. The professional in this role guides accounting practices for products, pricing, contracts, incentives, refunds, and international expansion while building robust governance and workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct technical accounting assessments for advertising products and commercial arrangements including performance obligations, variable consideration, and refunds.
Maintain and evolve revenue accounting policies and operating guidance in response to changing product behavior and pricing models.
Build governance structures for new products including decision rights, materiality thresholds, and launch approvals.
Translate accounting conclusions into specific requirements for product design, contracting, billing, and reporting.
Manage the operating cadence for incentive and makegood accounting, settlements, reconciliations, and general ledger tie-outs.
Collaborate across departments with product, engineering, sales, legal, tax, and billing teams.
Prepare technical memos and audit-ready documentation for corporate accounting and external auditors.
Leverage data, automation, and technology to streamline research, monitoring, and repetitive finance workflows.

Requirements

Ten or more years of progressive experience in revenue accounting with direct ownership of ASC 606 judgments and operational execution.
Demonstrated leadership ability to independently set direction and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
Familiarity with digital advertising, adtech, marketplaces, payments, or high-volume transaction environments.
Knowledge of variable consideration, principal-versus-agent accounting, contract modifications, and revenue presentation.
Track record of building scalable zero-to-one accounting processes, governance, and internal controls.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for producing audit-ready documentation.

Nice to Have

Background supporting global product launches, multiple currencies, and localized billing models.
Experience applying automation or AI tools within finance departments under strict review standards.
History of partnering closely with engineering or finance systems teams.
Experience leading distributed accounting teams or operating groups.
Previous experience in public-company controllership, audit, or rigorous control environments.
