Apify is seeking a Team Lead, Actors to join the Universe team in Prague or remotely, offering an opportunity to build and scale core tools that power AI use cases. Role Overview

The Team Lead, Actors will take charge of the Universe team, guiding the technical direction while remaining hands-on with development. Responsibilities include building and scaling core web scraping Actors like the Website Content Crawler, contributing to open-source libraries, and integrating modern AI technologies into day-to-day engineering workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Build and scale the Website Content Crawler and other core Actors designed to reliably extract and structure web data under heavy real-world loads.
Lead the Universe team by planning technical work, unblocking colleagues, shaping architectural solutions, and guiding the team forward.
Write clean, maintainable code, conduct thorough code reviews, and drive refactoring efforts.
Reverse-engineer web technologies and design intuitive APIs for developer communities.
Contribute to Crawlee, Apify's open-source web scraping library, and engage in cross-team product engineering projects.
Utilize advanced AI tools to accelerate development, prototype effectively, and build AI-powered features for the platform.

Requirements

Formal or informal experience leading a team or major projects with a desire to grow further in leadership.
Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript using Node.js, alongside a solid grasp of web technologies.
Minimum of 2 years of professional or open-source experience working on non-trivial projects within a team environment.
Commitment to code quality, readability, and regular refactoring.
Familiarity with AI tools and an understanding of their practical applications in engineering.
Strong problem-solving abilities and a systems-thinking mindset capable of designing complex architecture.
Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice to Have

Experience with people leadership aspects such as hiring, mentoring, running one-on-ones, and delivering feedback.
A proven track record of contributing to user-facing products.
Experience sharing knowledge through tutorials, technical support, or custom tooling.
Past contributions to open-source software projects.
