Kong is seeking a remote Staff Solutions Engineer based in Massachusetts to guide enterprise clients through the API and AI connectivity revolution. This role suits an experienced technical professional with a background in software or solutions engineering who excels at managing complex enterprise accounts.

Role Overview

In this position, the engineer acts as a trusted technical advisor, helping top-tier enterprises build secure and scalable API ecosystems while transitioning into the agentic AI era. The role sits at the intersection of API management and AI connectivity, driving technical validation and customer success alongside field sales teams.

Key Responsibilities

Assist field sales by demonstrating the value of the Kong platform through discovery conversations and product reviews.
Own technical validation and stakeholder alignment throughout proof of concept (POC) evaluations.
Create technical documentation tailored for DevOps, implementations, and services engagements.
Lead API management and AI governance evaluations, focusing on LLM traffic management and governance requirements.
Run technical feasibility workshops to validate platform fit for modern and AI-driven architectures.
Mentor and coach junior solutions engineers regarding technical skills and deal strategy.
Build thought leadership by writing technical blogs, hosting webinars, and speaking at major industry events.
Share customer feedback and market trends with internal product teams to influence future direction.

Requirements

Bring at least seven years of software engineering or solutions engineering experience within enterprise, SaaS, or open-source companies.
Demonstrated history of successfully managing complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise deals.
Prior experience coaching or mentoring other technical team members.
Hands-on familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern cloud-native environments.
Knowledge of REST and GraphQL APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and security patterns like OAuth2, OIDC, and mTLS.
Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or OpenAI Codex.
Understanding of LLM architectures, model routing, rate limiting, and prompt governance.
Familiarity with agentic AI patterns and the Model Context Protocol.
