About this role

Role Overview

The Staff Product Designer position at Scale AI is an opportunity to lead product design for the Public Sector business unit located in New York, NY or Washington, DC. This professional will shape artificial intelligence-powered decision support tools for government and national security customers tackling critical operations.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the complete design lifecycle, starting from undefined requirements and moving through wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes.
Create state-of-the-art methods to incorporate artificial intelligence into design systems and workflows.
Build interfaces for data-dense workflows, including analytical reporting tools, mapping interfaces, dashboards, and alerting systems.
Collaborate directly with Product and Engineering partners to resolve ambiguity, navigate tradeoffs, and launch experiences.
Write code alongside engineers, moving beyond static mockups to refine shipped experiences.
Engage directly with customers during discovery, feedback, and post-launch phases, and share design decisions with stakeholders.
Contribute interaction patterns and design assets back to the broader platform.

Requirements

Bring 10 to 15 years of experience across various design settings and problem types.
Excel at simplifying dense, complex systems into elegant, user-friendly solutions.
Transform ambiguity into clear product directions when requirements are still forming.
Own end-to-end B2B or enterprise product experiences from initial sketches to final shipping.
Demonstrate a strong client-facing presence with the confidence to present to senior stakeholders.
Maintain a working understanding of front-end development, clean design handoffs, and direct collaboration with engineers.

Nice to Have

Experience in a client-facing role presenting directly to senior stakeholders.
Exposure to artificial intelligence and machine learning tools with fluency using them in personal design workflows.
Experience contributing to shared interaction patterns or design systems across multiple teams or products.
Active security clearance.

Skills and Tools

End-to-end product design, wireframing, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototyping.
Designing dashboards, mapping interfaces, alerting systems, and analytical reporting tools.
Front-end development collaboration and coding assistance.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning integration within design systems.

Salary and Benefits

Base salary range for New York: $200,000 to $290,000 USD.
Base salary range for Washington, DC: $180,000 to $260,000 USD.
Equity-based compensation subject to Board of Director approval.
