Role Overview

This position sits within the Science department at Inworld AI, functioning as a hands-on research role focused on real-time artificial intelligence and large-scale serving infrastructure. The professional in this position takes full ownership of the research lifecycle, from framing core questions and running experiments to shipping production-ready results. Working in a flat organizational structure with rapid iterations, the scientist collaborates in person to solve complex technical problems.

Key Responsibilities

Build, train, and scale foundation models while experimenting with new architectures, reinforcement learning, and reward modeling.
Create evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, quality measurement loops, and failure analysis procedures.
Explore frontier topics including multimodal models, agentic systems, tool use, test-time compute, and world models.
Own the complete research cycle by defining problems, executing experiments, and delivering shipped solutions.
Design rigorous experiments to clarify ambiguous technical challenges and evaluate model performance.

Requirements

Strong background in machine learning, natural language processing, or related technical domains demonstrated through a PhD or equivalent practical experience.
Documented experience with foundation models, evaluation methodologies, or frontier artificial intelligence topics.
Proven track record of published research at major venues such as ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS, EMNLP, ACL, or AAAI, or equivalent public work including open-source contributions and non-trivial AI projects.
Comfort working in environments with high ambiguity and the ability to build functional roadmaps independently.
Bias toward tangible impact, shipping code, and understanding the core mechanics behind technical decisions.
