Role Overview

Glance is hiring a Staff Applied Scientist - I to operate at the intersection of classical machine learning, large-scale recommendation systems, and modern agentic AI systems. The successful candidate will design, build, and deploy intelligent platforms that power personalized lock screens and live entertainment experiences across mobile and TV devices. This position requires blending deep machine learning craftsmanship with forward-looking innovation in autonomous systems to shape the next era of commerce and content discovery.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop large-scale recommendation engines using advanced machine learning, statistical modeling, ranking algorithms, and deep learning techniques.
Build and operate predictive models on high-volume data sources for personalization and content understanding.
Create rapid experimentation workflows to test hypotheses and measure real-world business outcomes.
Own data preparation, model training, evaluation, and deployment pipelines working alongside engineering teams.
Monitor model performance using statistical methods to detect drifts, failure modes, and optimization opportunities.
Build and experiment with agentic AI systems that autonomously observe performance, trigger experiments, tune hyperparameters, and orchestrate workflows.
Apply large language models, vector embeddings, retrieval-augmented architectures, and multimodal generative models for semantic understanding and user preference modeling.
Design intelligent agents to automate repetitive decisions such as candidate generation tuning and context-aware content curation.
Collaborate across departments with designers, UX researchers, product managers, and software engineers to integrate generative AI features.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, Analytics, or a related technical field.
At least 6 years of professional industry experience in machine learning or data science, ideally focusing on large-scale recommendation systems or personalization.
Expertise in algorithms spanning natural language processing, reinforcement learning, time series analysis, and deep learning applied to real-world datasets.
Proficiency in Python alongside statistical tools like R, NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
Strong practical background using big data ecosystems including Spark or Hadoop alongside cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Experience designing end-to-end machine learning solutions from initial prototype to production deployment.
Familiarity with privacy-preserving machine learning and identity-less ecosystems across Android and iOS.

Nice to Have

A PhD degree in a relevant technical or scientific discipline.
Hands-on experience building or experimenting with large language models, generative models, and agentic or autonomous machine learning workflows.
