The Sr. Software Engineer (Backend) role at Pendo in Raleigh, NC is an onsite position suited for experienced developers who want to own complex product features and drive them forward independently. Key Responsibilities

Own complex, ambiguous features from end-to-end by structuring tasks into small, independently shippable increments.
Write production-ready code and establish risk-based testing approaches while utilizing safe rollout patterns.
Handle production incident responses quickly and implement follow-up improvements to prevent recurring issues.
Integrate AI tools into daily workflows for debugging, code generation, test writing, and task decomposition.
Deliver actionable code reviews, clear documentation, and constructive contributions during technical planning sessions.
Identify friction points in tooling, code, or processes to make development faster, safer, and more maintainable.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience with a history of delivering customer-facing SaaS product features in production environments.
Strong proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Go.
Deep familiarity with scalable web architecture, performance optimization, and API design.
Working knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, along with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
Experience creating unit, integration, and end-to-end tests along with familiarity regarding safe deployment patterns.
Active utilization of artificial intelligence tools throughout the software development lifecycle.
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Background in improving developer workflows, processes, or team-level tooling beyond immediate feature responsibilities.
Experience providing mentorship or elevating fellow engineers via technical documentation and code reviews.
Past contributions to shared platform capabilities utilized across multiple product teams.
