Role Overview

As a Sr. AI Backend & Data Engineer, the candidate will own software development from initial design through production deployment, operational monitoring, and business impact measurement. The engineering team operates with high velocity, shipping features daily and utilizing AI tooling as a core workflow multiplier. This role requires making pragmatic architectural choices, maintaining delivery flow through small incremental releases, and treating AI components as essential runtime dependencies rather than isolated experiments.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, backend services, and AI-powered platform capabilities for production.
Decompose complex projects into safely mergeable increments to ship software updates daily.
Utilize AI-assisted development tools like automated testing, code generation, and architecture prototyping to boost engineering throughput.
Monitor operational health, CI/CD pipelines, cost efficiency, and end-to-end domain outcomes.
Make timely architectural choices and document decisions using lightweight architectural decision records.
Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and infrastructure teams to transform business needs into effective technical solutions.

Requirements

At least 5 years of professional experience building and shipping production-grade backend and data systems within distributed cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
Hands-on experience integrating AI and machine learning into live production workflows, including LLM or agent-based components.
Active utilization of AI-assisted development tooling to accelerate engineering output.
Strong backend expertise in Java, Python, and/or Go.
Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, data modeling, and query optimization.
Demonstrated expertise in automated testing, observability, and CI/CD practices.

Nice to Have

Practical experience launching MLOps-powered systems in production environments, covering model serving, monitoring, and retraining pipelines.
Familiarity with distributed data technologies like Parquet or Athena.
Prior experience making and documenting autonomous architectural decisions using lightweight records.
