About this role

Role Overview

True Anomaly is hiring a Software Engineer I, Data Science (New Grad) for a temporary engagement based in Denver, CO or Long Beach, CA. This entry-level role supports hardware production and spacecraft operations by turning telemetry and manufacturing data into actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct exploratory data analysis on manufacturing telemetry, test logs, mission data, and on-orbit spacecraft health telemetry to detect patterns and anomalies.
Build operational dashboards using Grafana or Plotly Dash to display real-time production status, spacecraft health metrics, and anomaly alerts.
Train basic predictive models, such as logistic regression and random forests, to flag at-risk components during manufacturing and predict degradation during missions.
Write SQL queries to extract, join, and aggregate information from manufacturing databases, test systems, and mission telemetry archives.
Analyze test failures and orbital anomalies to determine common failure modes and quantify schedule impact.
Generate data visualizations via matplotlib, seaborn, or Plotly to share findings with engineers, manufacturing leads, and program managers.
Implement statistical process control charts to catch out-of-spec conditions in manufacturing processes and spacecraft telemetry.
Monitor active on-orbit telemetry streams for factors like battery voltage trends, thermal behavior, attitude control health, and link quality.
Document analysis methods in Jupyter notebooks to ensure reproducibility and knowledge transfer.
Learn reliability engineering and mission operations concepts including failure modes, burn-in testing, and anomaly response.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in data science, statistics, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, operations research, or a related quantitative field.
Proficiency in Python for data analysis using pandas, numpy, matplotlib, and seaborn.
Working knowledge of SQL for querying relational databases with commands like SELECT, JOIN, and GROUP BY.
Coursework covering statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, probability distributions, and experimental design.
Ability to craft clear data visualizations for technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong curiosity regarding failure analysis and a debugging mindset for resolving unexpected query or model results.
Eagerness to learn manufacturing, operations, and reliability engineering domains.
U.S. citizenship is required for facility access and government contracts.

Nice to Have

Experience with machine learning in Python utilizing scikit-learn for classification and regression.
Familiarity with time-series analysis, sensor trends, and change point detection.
Exposure to visualization frameworks like Grafana, Tableau, or Plotly Dash.
Understanding of reliability concepts such as failure rates and mean time between failures.
Prior internship or project experience analyzing real-world operational, manufacturing, logistics, or IoT sensor data.
Experience using git for version control and collaborative data workflows.
Coursework or projects in industrial engineering, quality management, or operations research.
Familiarity with data cleaning, wrangling, outlier detection, and experimental design.
Exposure to anomaly detection techniques including z-scores and control charts.
