About this role

True Anomaly is hiring a Data Scientist for Manufacturing Analytics to work onsite in Denver, Colorado or Long Beach, California. This role suits a quantitative professional eager to build predictive models and diagnostic tools that support space superiority missions.

Role Overview

The Data Scientist for Manufacturing Analytics will create predictive models that identify component failures before mission impacts occur. Working within the Autonomy Engineering department, this onsite position involves evaluating manufacturing telemetry, setting up real-time anomaly detection systems, and performing root cause analysis for quality and schedule issues.

Key Responsibilities

Build predictive models using manufacturing telemetry, test data, and reliability history to catch component issues early.
Design and deploy anomaly detection systems for launch operations, testing, and spacecraft integration to flag operational deviations in real time.
Investigate test failures, schedule delays, and quality escapes through causal inference and data mining.
Develop diagnostic solutions combining manufacturing history, supplier metrics, and test logs to accelerate troubleshooting.
Create and maintain operational dashboards providing real-time visibility across production and integration workflows.
Mine production data to cluster failure modes, pinpoint bottlenecks, and prioritize process improvements.
Implement statistical process control systems to catch out-of-spec conditions early.
Write maintainable Python and SQL code alongside Jupyter notebooks to document methods and support team reproducibility.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, operations research, or a related quantitative field, plus 2 to 4 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a similar field with no prior experience.
Proficiency in Python, including pandas, scikit-learn, and matplotlib, alongside strong SQL skills for analysis and visualization.
Solid grounding in statistics covering hypothesis testing, regression, survival analysis, experimental design, and time-series analysis.
Experience constructing end-to-end data pipelines from cleaning and feature engineering to model deployment.
Ability to clearly present technical findings to non-technical audiences using actionable visualizations.
Strong interest in learning manufacturing, reliability, and operations engineering domains.
Enthusiasm for spaceflight and high-stakes reliability.
Must be based in or able to commute daily to the Denver, CO or Long Beach, CA office.
Compliance with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including ITAR, requiring U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, protected individual status, or eligibility for required state department authorizations.

Nice to Have

Background in reliability engineering such as Weibull or Cox models, reliability growth, and failure mode analysis.
Familiarity with manufacturing analytics including statistical process control, multivariate control charts, and quality prediction.
Exposure to anomaly detection techniques like Isolation Forest, LSTM autoencoders, and change point detection.
Hands-on experience in operations analytics, supply chain forecasting, or industrial IoT telemetry.
Knowledge of causal inference methods like directed acyclic graphs and counterfactual reasoning.
Experience handling imbalanced classification through SMOTE, active learning, or cost-sensitive learning.
Time-series forecasting familiarity with ARIMA, Prophet, and structural break handling.
Coursework or projects in operations research, queuing theory, optimization, or discrete event simulation.
Text mining and NLP exposure for log analysis or failure report clustering.

Skills and Tools

Python
SQL
Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Pandas, scikit-learn, matplotlib
Statistical modeling and hypothesis testing
Data pipeline development

Salary and Benefits

Base salary range: $125,000 to $270,000 per year, determined by experience, knowledge, skills, education, and location.
