Machine Learning Engineer (II-III), Space Edge Deployment
About this role
Developing, training, and evaluating machine learning models for mission-relevant tasks forms the core of daily engineering duties on the Applied Algorithms and Autonomy team at True Anomaly. Engineers in this function support data ingestion pipelines, run experimental iterations, and write Python code that powers autonomous spacecraft and advanced payloads designed to secure the space domain. Building decentralized AI capabilities for orbital environments requires collaborators who take ownership of difficult technical challenges and demonstrate curiosity.
Operating out of offices in Denver or Long Beach, the selected engineer joins a collaborative group focused on space superiority and defense technology. Candidates who thrive here possess foundational knowledge in statistical methods and machine learning, paired with a drive to learn from senior colleagues. This role serves individuals eager to apply their technical skills toward autonomous systems and national security applications in a mission-driven environment.
What you will do
- Assist in the development, training, and evaluation of machine learning models across a range of mission-relevant tasks.
- Support data ingestion, preprocessing, and feature engineering pipelines for various space applications.
- Run experiments, track results, and contribute to model evaluation and iteration cycles.
- Write clean, documented, and testable Python code as part of a collaborative engineering team.
- Learn and grow alongside senior engineers, contributing meaningfully from day one.
What you need
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in computer science, machine learning, data science, electrical engineering, or a similar discipline with 2 to 4 years of experience, or a Master's degree in one of these fields with no experience required.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Python programming for technical applications.
- Possess a foundational understanding of machine learning concepts including supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and model evaluation.
- Show exposure to machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX through coursework, research, or personal projects.
- Bring strong mathematical fundamentals in linear algebra, statistics, and probability.
- Exhibit eagerness to learn, take feedback, and grow in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment along with a dedication to space security.
Nice to have
- Internship, research, or project experience applying ML to real-world or research datasets
- Familiarity with classification, regression, clustering, or anomaly detection techniques
- Experience with version control (Git) and basic software engineering practices
- Exposure to MLOps concepts such as experiment tracking or model versioning
- Coursework or project work in deep learning, computer vision, or time-series analysis
Benefits
- 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, with HSA/HRA options
- Flexible Time Off (FTO) for exempt employees, accrued PTO of up to 25 days for non-exempt employees, plus 12 paid holidays, parental leave, and sick leave
