About this role

Role Overview

The Data Scientist (II-Senior), Operations & Reliability role at True Anomaly involves building predictive models and anomaly detection systems to support autonomous spacecraft manufacturing and mission operations. Based fully onsite in Denver, Colorado or Long Beach, California, this position suits quantitative professionals eager to apply data science to aerospace and defense technology.

Key Responsibilities

Build predictive models using manufacturing telemetry, test data, and historical reliability records to anticipate component failures before they impact missions.
Design and deploy real-time anomaly detection systems for launch operations, environmental testing, and spacecraft integration to flag deviations.
Conduct root cause analysis on schedule delays, test failures, and quality escapes utilizing causal inference, statistical modeling, and data mining.
Develop integrated diagnostic systems that combine manufacturing history, supplier data, test logs, and failure reports to streamline troubleshooting.
Construct and maintain operational dashboards to provide real-time visibility across production, test, and integration workflows.
Mine historical test and production data to spot patterns, prioritize process improvements, and quantify risk for upcoming builds.
Implement statistical process control and quality monitoring systems to detect out-of-spec conditions early.
Write clean, maintainable Python and SQL code alongside Jupyter notebooks to document analysis methodology for the engineering team.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, operations research, or a related quantitative field, paired with 2 to 4 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a similar field with no prior experience required.
Strong proficiency in Python (including pandas, scikit-learn, and matplotlib) and SQL for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization.
Solid grounding in statistics covering hypothesis testing, regression, time-series analysis, survival analysis, and experimental design.
Proven experience building end-to-end data pipelines from data cleaning and feature engineering to model training, validation, and deployment.
Ability to translate technical findings into clear visualizations and actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State export regulation authorizations.

Nice to Have

Reliability engineering background featuring survival analysis (Weibull, Cox models), reliability growth modeling, and failure mode analysis.
Manufacturing analytics familiarity including statistical process control, multivariate control charts, and quality prediction.
Exposure to anomaly detection techniques such as Isolation Forest, LSTM autoencoders, and change point detection.
Experience or project work in operations analytics, supply chain forecasting, or industrial IoT telemetry analysis.
Knowledge of causal inference methods, imbalanced classification, time-series forecasting, text mining, and NLP.
