Role Overview

Cloudflare is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Egress team, contributing to cutting-edge network software infrastructure. This team handles egress connectivity for numerous Cloudflare products, including the WARP Zero Trust platform and the egress proxy for iCloud Private Relay. Developers engage in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from system design and documentation to coding, automated testing, and production monitoring. The engineering department follows a "Run What You Build" model, meaning developers maintain responsibility for system health and participate in on-call rotations.

Key Responsibilities

Design systems, write technical specifications, and push code using Git.
Plan and execute production software releases while coordinating system actions with other engineering groups.
Participate in team meetings to collaborate and share daily progress.
Take part in the team on-call schedule to maintain production system uptime.
Investigate and resolve customer issues escalated to the Egress team.
Answer questions from other teams through internal communication channels.
Integrate AI-powered tools into daily workflows for codebase analysis, log exploration, and problem-solving.

Requirements

Three or more years of hands-on software engineering experience, including end-to-end architecture ownership of complex, distributed, production-critical systems.
Programming experience in Go or Rust.
Solid understanding of networking protocols in Layers 3 and 4 of the OSI Model.
Knowledge of HTTP, TLS, and content delivery network architectures.
Experience building secure, highly available distributed systems.
Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Willingness to incorporate AI tools into the engineering workflow.

Nice to Have

Knowledge of TCP/IP and internet routing.
Professional systems-level programming experience utilizing Rust.
Experience building internal tools and APIs.
Background in monitoring, alerting, and debugging large-scale distributed systems.
Prior participation in an on-call rotation.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools in a professional setting.
Experience or interest in HTTP networking, VPN technologies, and network performance tuning.

Salary and Benefits
