The Integrity team builds the systems that protect OpenAI’s products, users, and ecosystem from abuse by working across product engineering, infrastructure, safety, and operations. As the organization builds new ads experiences, this team is establishing the integrity foundation to keep the ads ecosystem safe and trustworthy from the start, spanning advertiser onboarding, content safety, and abuse prevention.
In this foundational and highly cross-functional role, the engineer will design backend systems and infrastructure that detect, prevent, and respond to harmful, deceptive, or fraudulent activity across the ads lifecycle. Responsibilities include building low-latency integrity infrastructure, developing scalable risk-signal pipelines, and integrating machine learning signals into production systems. The work requires partnering closely with Ads, Product, Safety, Policy, ML, Privacy, Security, and operations teams to build protections directly into the ads platform from first principles.
What you will do
- Design and build large-scale backend systems to detect and prevent harmful, deceptive, or fraudulent activity across the ads ecosystem.
- Develop low-latency integrity infrastructure capable of evaluating risk signals and making real-time or near-real-time decisions.
- Build advertiser onboarding, business verification, account-risk, fraud-detection, and abuse-prevention capabilities.
- Partner with machine learning teams to integrate classifiers and model-based signals into production integrity systems.
- Create tooling and infrastructure that enable operations and policy teams to investigate abuse and make fast decisions.
- Define the technical strategy and architecture for ads integrity as the product and threat landscape evolve.
What you need
- Significant experience building and operating large-scale backend or distributed systems.
- Background working on integrity, trust and safety, anti-abuse, fraud, risk, security, or business verification domains.
- Experience building detection, decisioning, enforcement, verification, investigation, or risk infrastructure in production.
- Understanding of how rules, heuristics, risk signals, machine learning signals, and human review work together in a production system.
- Ability to build low-latency, high-throughput services or data pipelines with strict reliability, privacy, and security requirements.
