About this role

Developers who thrive in ambiguity and enjoy rapidly building lightweight prototypes to test emerging technologies will find a strong fit here. MongoDB seeks a software engineer for its enterprise architecture group to join a focused team dedicated to artificial intelligence experimentation. The group collaborates with internal engineering and other departments to explore, prototype, and validate new AI capabilities before they reach formal roadmap stages.

Team members design and run experiments that test these capabilities against real internal use cases, documenting findings to guide broader organizational strategy. Candidates must be based in Gurugram for the company's hybrid working model and bring two to five years of professional software engineering experience. Anyone who enjoys working independently on complex technical challenges while staying current on modern tooling will do well in this role.

What you will do

  • Design and run experiments that test emerging AI capabilities against real internal use cases before formal prioritization.
  • Condense the learnings of experiments and document findings so knowledge can be utilized across the organization.
  • Build lightweight prototypes to quickly validate or discard ideas.
  • Stay current on new AI tooling and models, turning relevant developments into concrete internal proof points.
  • Partner with product, platform, and internal engineering teams to hand off validated capabilities for production.
  • Identify and communicate risks, unknowns, and open questions clearly to stakeholders while maintaining technical rigor.

What you need

  • Bring two to five years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrate deep experience with at least one modern programming language such as Python, Typescript, Go, or Rust.
  • Possess strong technical judgment and the ability to independently solve complex engineering problems.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate across teams and disciplines.
  • Operate comfortably in ambiguity by scoping and running experiments when the right approach is not yet known.
  • Bring hands-on experience prototyping with LLMs or agentic systems including evals, fine-tuning, RAG, tool use, and orchestration frameworks.

Nice to have

  • Experience building and maintaining full-stack applications from front-end UIs to backend APIs and data pipelines
  • Experience designing systems or services used by other engineers or teams
  • Knowledge of Tanstack Start, Next.js, FastAPI, React, model evaluation frameworks, vector databases, or agent orchestration tooling
  • Familiarity with transformer architecture, model internals, containerized applications, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines

Benefits

  • Employee affinity groups
  • Fertility assistance
  • Generous parental leave policy
