About this role

Role Overview

Scale AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Public Sector department to join teams in San Francisco, CA, St. Louis, MO, New York, NY, or Washington, DC. This position involves building core product building blocks and scalable backend systems to support federal customers and real-time decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend systems and distributed architectures for Federal customers.
Manage the full lifecycle of feature development from requirement definition to deployment on classified networks.
Direct the orchestration of asynchronous agent fleets to meet mission requirements and optimize data retrieval for agents.
Lead customer engagements to translate mission needs into technical requirements while owning stakeholder communication.
Conduct technical reviews, identify risks within machine learning infrastructure, and drive the platform roadmap.

Requirements

Proficiency in full-stack development, including front-end, back-end development, and databases.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP, alongside containerization and orchestration tools.
Knowledge of ETL processes, data pipelines, data modeling, data warehousing, and data governance principles.
Familiarity with integrating Large Language Models and building agentic workflows, prompt engineering, and RAG.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills with adaptability to evolving project requirements.

Salary and Benefits

Base salary range for San Francisco and New York: $216,000 to $311,000 USD.
Base salary range for Washington, DC: $194,400 to $279,000 USD.
Base salary range for St. Louis: $162,400 to $233,000 USD.
Additional compensation includes equity based on Board of Director approval.
Benefits feature comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, retirement benefits, a learning and development stipend, generous PTO, and a commuter stipend for eligible roles.
