Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer, Cloudflare Queues position is a full-time role based in Austin, Texas, focusing on the development and scaling of a global message queuing service. This opportunity suits experienced engineers who want to build foundational internet infrastructure using modern AI-first workflows and distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

Design and construct Cloudflare Queues as an active part of the developer platform.
Maintain and enhance a high-volume, global-scale message queuing service.
Ship innovative product features and vital performance improvements.
Improve overall reliability, execution speed, and message delivery guarantees.
Own software projects completely from initial design documents through final release.
Contribute across all layers of the technical software stack.
Improve message buffering behavior and optimize producer and consumer scalability under heavy load.
Debug and resolve user-facing technical issues.
Apply AI tools thoughtfully throughout the entire development lifecycle while prioritizing security and quality.

Requirements

Minimum of 4 years of professional experience working with distributed systems and data.
Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools throughout the software lifecycle.
Strong judgment regarding when to rely on AI tools and when to independently validate output.
Demonstrated ownership of software correctness, security, and quality.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to document complex ideas clearly.
Solid working understanding of TypeScript and JavaScript.
Strong systems-level programming skills and familiarity with security responsibilities.
Experience monitoring, alerting, and debugging high-volume production software systems.
Proficiency with continuous integration workflows and Git.
Ability to analyze large data sets such as system logs.
Experience designing and building robust APIs.
