Gravie is seeking a remote Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI to design and build production-grade artificial intelligence agent systems. This full-time role suits an experienced developer with a strong background in both backend services and frontend product engineering.

Role Overview

Engineers at Gravie work closely with product teams and own outcomes from end to end. This position involves deep business understanding, problem-solving, and utilizing agentic development to increase scope and leverage. The engineer is responsible for shaping solutions, setting guardrails, validating results, and maintaining full ownership of shipped code in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Design and build production-grade AI agent systems, including orchestration layers, multi-agent workflows, and supporting services.
Construct retrieval, context, and memory systems that ground AI outputs and support reliable, multi-step workflows.
Create AI-driven decision-support systems that satisfy the traceability, accuracy, and explainability demands of regulated healthcare environments.
Build distributed backend services, event-driven workers, job pipelines, APIs, and relational data models.
Create intuitive user experiences utilizing React and TypeScript to make complex AI features accessible and actionable.
Establish patterns for AI quality assurance, covering automated evaluations, regression testing, compliance guardrails, and groundedness checks.
Assess models and frameworks using evidence regarding latency, accuracy, cost, reliability, security, and privacy.
Mentor fellow engineers and help elevate engineering standards across the entire team.

Requirements

Five or more years of software engineering experience, featuring ownership of complex systems from initial design through production.
Practical experience building and operating production AI applications rather than simple prototypes.
Direct experience with agentic software development, using AI coding agents for specification creation, executing multi-step work, fixing tests, and validating results while maintaining architectural ownership.
Deep expertise in at least one primary domain, such as Python backend and distributed systems, or React and TypeScript product engineering, with the capability to work across the full system.
Familiarity with retrieval, embeddings, context, memory, evaluation, monitoring, or AI agent architectures and workflows.
Sound judgment regarding testing, monitoring, failure handling, data governance, security, privacy, and access control.
Clear communication skills and effective collaboration abilities across both technical and non-technical teams.
