Role Overview

Kraken is hiring a remote Senior Software Engineer for the Agent Systems team within the United Kingdom to build and ship production software that drives internal automation. This role suits an experienced backend and AI practitioner eager to shape a brand-new zero-to-one platform that boosts organizational speed.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and deploy AI-powered agent systems designed to automate internal decision pathways and workflows.
Create sophisticated inference pipelines capable of reasoning over user interactions across multiple internal platforms.
Rapidly build prototypes to test agent behaviors before transforming successful tests into production-grade architecture.
Develop backend services that connect seamlessly with diverse internal data sources and application programming interfaces.
Establish clear architectural patterns focused on safe, observable, and easily controllable agent execution.
Partner alongside cross-functional team members to discover high-leverage automation use cases.
Scale system performance by optimizing reliability, operational speed, and signal quality as usage increases.
Drive foundational design and architecture choices for a brand-new agent platform.

Requirements

Bring a minimum of five years of professional experience building and releasing production software systems.
Possess robust backend engineering fundamentals spanning distributed systems, reliable architecture, application programming interfaces, and data modeling.
Demonstrate practical experience designing fullstack systems with confidence spanning backend architectures and occasional frontend tasks.
Utilize hands-on expertise working with large language models, machine learning systems, or production inference pipelines.
Maintain the capability to prototype quickly while preserving a structured route to stable, production-ready software.
Exhibit strong systems thinking skills to effectively manage orchestration challenges, failure modes, and system observability.
Thrive while working autonomously within ambiguous, zero-to-one engineering environments requiring high personal ownership.

Nice to Have

Practical background in constructing or managing autonomous workflows and agent-based architectures.
Working knowledge of prompt engineering techniques, model performance tuning, or evaluation frameworks.
Experience integrating software with enterprise tools such as CRM platforms, analytics systems, or support tools.
Previous history developing internal tooling platforms or developer platforms.
Familiarity with designing safety layers, sandboxing mechanisms, or guardrails for artificial intelligence systems.
