About this role

Role Overview

Topstep is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join the Trading Platform team in the United States. This role suits a strong technical tester who thinks in systems and can build scalable test infrastructure while mentoring others.

Key Responsibilities

Drive test automation across API, UI, and end-to-end user journeys.
Use and extend AI-assisted test-generation tooling to produce verification-focused coverage.
Build and maintain scalable test frameworks and infrastructure that run in CI/CD, covering order lifecycles and market-data streams over WebSockets.
Partner with product and engineering early to define testability requirements and quality standards.
Lead by example on test code quality and manage signal reliability within test suites by minimizing flakiness.
Mentor engineers and SDETs on automation patterns, AI-assisted workflows, and non-functional testing.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years in software testing with a strong focus on test automation and framework development.
Expert programming skills in TypeScript to write production-quality test code.
Hands-on experience building test automation frameworks from scratch, such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium.
Experience using AI and LLM-assisted tooling for test creation with the judgment to validate generated output.
Strong background in API and real-time testing, including RESTful services and WebSocket systems.
Familiarity with a React and TypeScript front end, C# and .NET backend services, databases, and service architectures.
Experience integrating automated tests into deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions.

Nice to Have

Experience with non-functional testing including performance, load, and resilience.
Familiarity with ArgoCD, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
Background in testing trading, fintech, or low-latency and financially sensitive systems.
Experience with contract or consumer-driven testing between services.
Background in observability-driven testing utilizing logs, metrics, and traces.

Salary and Benefits

New hire base salary range of $155,000 to $190,000 annually, alongside eligibility for a performance-based bonus.
