Role Overview

As a Senior Manager, Research Scientist, the individual will head a specialized team of engineers and research scientists focused on generative AI, evaluation methodologies, and agentic reinforcement learning systems. The position requires setting a multi-year research strategy, managing project milestones, and collaborating across departments to turn scientific concepts into real-world applications. The selected candidate will balance hands-on technical guidance with people management in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Direct, mentor, and expand a group of research scientists and engineers specializing in post-training, evaluations, agents, and reinforcement learning environments.
Formulate and execute a long-term research roadmap by defining scientific inquiries, establishing objectives, and managing resource distribution.
Partner with engineering, product divisions, and external industry or academic collaborators to transform research into practical solutions.
Share findings publicly through conference presentations, academic publications, and open-source contributions while serving as an external advocate for the group.
Foster an inclusive, high-achieving workplace that encourages professional development, provides technical support, and attracts top-tier talent.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of direct research background, with a PhD or equivalent in deep learning, machine learning, generative models, or related disciplines preferred.
Demonstrated history of academic output and research success, featuring publications in premier artificial intelligence venues such as NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, and ACL.
Track record of delivering significant research outcomes within dynamic settings.
Prior leadership or management experience overseeing research professionals and mentoring personnel.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities to explain complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Salary and Benefits

Base salary range of $290,400 to $363,000 USD for full-time candidates located in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle.
