About this role
Leading safety strategy and execution for robotics operations involves anticipating risks across construction, commissioning, and around-the-clock activities before incidents occur. The environmental, health, and safety team partners across departments to integrate safety into how facilities are designed, built, and staffed as the operational footprint scales rapidly. An experienced leader manages site-level safety programs, collaborates with cross-functional partners, and provides visible field leadership to support extended shifts and complex technical environments.
This position exists because the robotics portfolio is growing quickly, creating an evolving risk profile that requires proactive preventive planning and consistent oversight. The person who succeeds here operates independently in ambiguity, balances operational speed with rigorous compliance, and influences senior technical leaders through effective partnership rather than rigid mandates.
What you will do
- Serve as a senior environmental, health, and safety partner across robotics research and development operations.
- Anticipate safety requirements for new operations, equipment, construction phases, and 24/7 schedules.
- Lead proactive risk identification and control across machine safety, ergonomics, electrical safety, and hazardous materials.
- Build and maintain site safety programs, risk assessments, training, inspections, and compliance processes.
- Partner with robotics, engineering, operations, and facilities to embed safety into facility design and operating decisions.
- Provide visible field leadership across shifts and establish mechanisms for 24/7 coverage and escalation.
- Lead incident response, investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action tracking for significant events.
- Maintain regulatory compliance with applicable occupational safety and health requirements while developing leadership metrics.
What you need
- Bring fifteen or more years of progressive environmental, health, and safety experience, including significant leadership in robotics, advanced manufacturing, or industrial environments.
- Demonstrate strong technical knowledge across occupational safety and health, such as machine safety, electrical safety, and hazardous materials.
- Possess experience supporting complex sites through rapid scale, construction overlap, and transition to extended operations.
- Maintain working knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements to translate obligations into practical programs.
- Show demonstrated success influencing senior technical and operational leaders through effective partnership.
- Display comfort operating independently in ambiguity with the technical depth and ownership needed to anticipate growth.
