Role Overview

The Senior Customer Engineer, SLED South West is a remote position based in Southern California or Arizona that focuses on supporting state, local, and educational public sector clients. This role suits a quota-carrying technologist with deep public sector expertise who wants to drive technical strategy and customer adoption using AI-augmented workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Partner closely with Account Executives to lead technical discovery, build bespoke architectures, and deliver product demonstrations and Proof of Concepts tailored to public sector compliance standards.
Provide oversight to technical onboarding and implementation, acting as the primary executive and engineering contact for customers.
Monitor dynamic customer health scores and telemetry to ensure rapid time-to-value and resolve integration bottlenecks in municipal and educational IT infrastructures.
Carry a variable quota tied directly to new business acquisition and ongoing account growth, identifying strategic cross-sell and up-sell opportunities.
Lead technical Quarterly Business Reviews to translate platform capabilities into return on investment for C-level executives.
Leverage AI agents and internal platforms to automate routine tasks such as RFP responses, sandbox provisioning, and basic telemetry monitoring.

Requirements

Proven experience working with or selling into SLED, Local Government, or Municipal agencies with an understanding of public sector buying cycles and compliance requirements.
Experience in a customer-facing technical role such as Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Sales Engineering, or as a Forward Deployed Engineer.
Broad technical expertise spanning web security, networking including routing, DNS, and DDoS mitigation, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise architecture.
Proven track record of operating in a quota-carrying or revenue-aligned environment with an understanding of SaaS metrics.
Exceptional presentation and stakeholder management skills to bridge technical details with government C-suite business strategy.

Nice to Have

Hands-on experience building, deploying, or architecting solutions using Cloudflare's developer platform and AI ecosystem, specifically Workers AI, AI Gateway, and Vectorize.
Experience with prompt engineering, Large Language Model orchestration, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation architectures.
Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages to write custom integration scripts, API connectors, and edge computing functions.

Salary and Benefits

Estimated annual salary of $231,000 to $275,000+ OTE for San Francisco based hires, and $221,000 to $267,000 OTE for Los Angeles based hires, with compensation adjusted depending on work location
