Role Overview

Gong is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for the AI Framework team in Tel Aviv to build foundational platforms that empower the organization to design, evaluate, and operate AI agents at scale. This role suits an experienced backend professional with a strong platform mindset who wants to drive company-wide AI enablement.

Key Responsibilities

Design and construct Gong's internal agentic framework by integrating industry-standard ecosystems such as LangChain, LangSmith, and ADK.
Develop evaluation frameworks and workflows for AI agents, covering offline and online evaluations, quality metrics, regression detection, and experimentation infrastructure.
Provide robust observability capabilities including tracing, logging, monitoring, cost tracking, and safety guardrails.
Create APIs, SDKs, and abstractions enabling product teams to build, test, and operate agents easily.
Design cross-language integrations and tooling spanning Python and Java to support the broader backend ecosystem.
Build the agent runtime and execution engine responsible for orchestration, tool calls, state and memory maintenance, and reliable distributed execution.

Requirements

Seven or more years of backend engineering experience featuring strong system design and platform-building expertise.
Hands-on background in designing and building production-grade agentic systems or agent frameworks covering orchestration, tool usage, memory management, and multi-step workflows.
Experience extending or building frameworks using tools like LangChain, LangGraph, ADK, or similar orchestration frameworks.
Experience operating production-grade AI agents while managing failure modes, retries, observability, and real user traffic.
Solid understanding of AI evaluation methodologies including agent evaluations, prompt evaluation, regression testing, and quality monitoring.
High proficiency in Python for constructing production-grade AI frameworks and services.
Familiarity with Java and experience integrating platform tooling into Java-based systems.
Experience building observability, monitoring, or platform tooling for distributed systems alongside cloud platform and microservices architecture knowledge.
