About this role

Managing sensitive inbound tickets, regulatory obligations, and escalations forms the daily focus of the Regulatory Operations Analyst at OpenAI. The User Operations team safeguards products and users from legal risk, regulatory non-compliance, fraud, and abuse while operating at the intersection of compliance and user trust. Working from San Francisco, the analyst handles complex regulatory operations under the EU Digital Services Act and EU AI Act, manages inquiries across the Americas and Asia-Pacific, and builds documentation, workflows, and tooling.

Created to scale global regulatory and compliance operations, the function requires independent handling of sensitive cases and close collaboration with Legal Counsel, Governance, Risk and Compliance, and engineering partners. Success in the position demands strong personal discretion, empathy, and resilience due to potential exposure to sensitive content involving harassment, fraud, or regulatory violations.

  • Perform risk evaluations and investigations to maintain user safety and regulatory alignment.
  • Act as incident manager for highly sensitive regulatory reviews by coordinating with Legal on regulatory standards.
  • Interface directly with Legal, Governance Risk & Compliance, Privacy, Product, Policy and Support teams to coordinate resolution paths.
  • Implement operational workflows for regulatory compliance while building tooling, escalation playbooks, and knowledge domains.
  • Contribute to vendor training and governance models during transitions and ramp-up phases.
  • Monitor operational health through case quality audits, SLA tracking, escalation accuracy, and data analysis.

What you need

  • Bring eight or more years of experience in regulatory compliance, legal operations, and trust and safety within a global or high-growth tech environment.
  • Translate content moderation or online safety requirements into operational workflows while navigating evolving global AI frameworks.
  • Partner with in-house legal counsel, data protection officers, or external regulators on audits, inquiries, or escalations.
  • Understand tiered support structures and work with vendor operations at scale.
  • Apply a structured, automation-first systems mindset to operational governance and risk evaluation.
