Role Overview

The Platform Product Manager determines what foundational layers are required for the enterprise core platform and maintains high quality standards during development. This position involves setting up the core infrastructure that forward-deployed teams build upon, prioritizing work around actual customer commitments, and graduating successful application patterns into core system features. The ideal candidate understands the complexities of building production-grade systems in high-stakes environments.

Key Responsibilities

Define the foundational requirements for the core platform layer across multiple capability pillars before building dependent features.
Sequence and prioritize platform tasks based on real customer commitments, team velocity, and current project bottlenecks.
Monitor application layers built by forward-deployed teams, identify recurring patterns, and transition them into core platform capabilities.
Maintain strict quality controls to ensure every platform feature earns its place by being both necessary and exceptionally reliable.
Eliminate repetitive plumbing work for forward-deployed delivery teams by supplying secure, deployable, and observable infrastructure with agentic primitives.
Collaborate across organizational lines with platform engineers, forward-deployed product managers, and business unit leads to resolve sequencing trade-offs.

Requirements

Bring six or more years of product management experience with significant ownership of platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing products at a production standard.
Demonstrate a clear history of defining and shipping standalone platform capabilities with a solid understanding of architectural decisions and production requirements.
Possess strong sequencing judgment to prioritize competing customer commitments and team velocity needs under conditions of incomplete information.
Exhibit technical fluency to engage in meaningful architectural conversations with platform engineers concerning infrastructure, authentication, observability, deployment, and agent runtimes.
Display extreme ownership, follow-through, and the ability to drive outcomes across teams without relying on formal authority.
Communicate clearly and precisely, tailoring messages appropriately for platform engineers, product managers, and executives.

Nice to Have

Direct working background involving AI and machine learning platform infrastructure, such as agent frameworks, evaluation pipelines, fine-tuning workflows, or production AI observability.
Experience deploying systems into highly constrained environments like government sectors, regulated industries, and air-gapped or classified infrastructure.
Previous experience operating as a platform or infrastructure product manager where field-built patterns served as primary signals for core products.

Salary and Benefits

Eligible roles at Scale receive comprehensive compensation packages that include base salary, equity, and benefits. The full-time base salary range for this position in New York and San Francisco is $240,000 to $300,000 USD, with the final offer determined by work location, skills, qualifications, experience, and interview performance. Employees are granted equity-based compensation subject to board approval and receive benefits including comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, retirement benefits, learning and development stipends, generous paid time off, and potential commuter stipends.
