Role Overview

The Principal Software Engineer, Programmable Comms role is an exciting opportunity at Aircall based at the Madrid Office. This position suits an experienced technical leader with over ten years of background in building distributed systems who wants to shape the future of voice, messaging, and AI agent integration.

Key Responsibilities

Define and drive the target architecture for the communications platform, ensuring it aligns with business goals and product direction.
Tackle complex, multi-domain technical challenges from initial definition all the way to production.
Establish rigorous quality standards in architecture, security, and DevOps, leading decision-making processes across multiple teams.
Take ownership of long-term reliability and performance strategies for tier-1 platforms, including SLOs, disaster recovery, and resilience.
Identify opportunities where AI can transform architecture, engineering workflows, and cost efficiency.
Mentor and coach engineers and technical leaders to foster professional growth across the organization.

Requirements

Bring ten or more years of hands-on experience building and operating production distributed systems in technical leadership capacities.
Demonstrate strong cloud computing expertise, specifically working with AWS and Kubernetes at scale.
Apply a security-first mindset alongside robust operational capabilities in observability and incident management.
Possess the capability to review code, architecture, and technical designs spanning multiple tech stacks.
Communicate fluently in written and spoken English.

Nice to Have

Deep background in real-time communications technologies such as VoIP, SIP, WebRTC, carrier networks, messaging, or media.
