In this position, the professional sits within Mobile Engineering to connect customer demands with robust backend systems. The work involves establishing technical direction for client-facing APIs, optimizing service boundaries, and driving cross-team engineering initiatives without requiring prior iOS or Android development experience.

Key Responsibilities

Set the technical vision for client-facing application programming interfaces and the underlying backend architecture.
Collaborate across application, search, AI, and shared platform departments to align technical priorities with customer needs.
Deliver cross-team services and subsystems, driving solutions from initial design through to production implementation.
Partner with user management teams to evolve authentication, session management, and product access across web and mobile ecosystems.
Coach engineers, elevate technical judgment, and establish reusable architectural patterns for future scalability.

Requirements

Extensive background in backend and distributed systems engineering, covering data ownership, consistency, and failure recovery.
Demonstrated success in simplifying complex architectures that create impact across multiple domains.
Solid hands-on programming experience with direct contributions to production codebases and system evolution.
Expertise in designing REST and GraphQL APIs for clients, emphasizing backward compatibility and proper business logic placement.
Familiarity with how mobile network constraints and lifecycles influence backend service design.
Comprehensive knowledge of authentication, authorization, entitlements, and security implications in client-service communications.
Proven capability to drive technical transformations across organizations through influence rather than direct reporting authority.

Nice to Have

Background in developing production systems for AI-powered research, search, or analysis workflows.
Familiarity with enterprise identity and managed application platforms like Microsoft identity, Auth0, or MDM ecosystems.
Experience creating shared configuration or service discovery mechanisms for multi-tenant platforms.
Knowledge of event-driven architectures, pub/sub models, and event-streaming technologies like Kafka.
